Top Ten Upcoming MMO Games for 2011-2012

So it’s a slow news day in the MMO world of games today so I figured I would put together a top ten list for upcoming MMOs for this year and next year. This list was a little difficult to put together. First I put the the obvious ones on the list that was kind of a no-brainer but I wanted to fill up all ten slots so I really had to dig to come up with the remaining slots.

Remember I could only pick games that are not yet released, only upcoming MMOs. Two of these games are a little bias on my part… you’ll see what I mean. This list is going to change often as new information on these games is released and after a game is released I’ll have to update the list to fill up the slot for upcoming game.

  1. Star Wars The Old Republic – It is obvious why this is at the top of the list, it broke records for pre-orders and that is with a limited amount of pre-orders available. This game is going to have it all… awesome looking fighting animations, space travel, companions, with fully voiced NPCs and conversation choices really put the player in to the storyline. Not to mention the subject matter is something that millions of people can get behind.
  2. Guild Wars 2 – This amazingly artistic looking game with it’s awesome fighting animations is bringing you a whole new level of MMO with their revolutionary ideas and it doesn’t hurt to be free to play.
  3. The Secret World – Using a real world aspect in this game putting real world locations in to the game really helps the player relate to their character in this upcoming monster killing, vampire staking, werewolf shooting, demon slaying MMO.
  4. Blade and Soul – Just one look at this game really says it all. I have been watching for this game for what seems like years and right from the beginning it had the best graphics of any game I have ever seen. It brings a martial arts style fighting that tops any game out there.
  5. Tera – This great looking fast paced MMO likes to brag that is a true action fighting MMO bringing you both a great looking game and an interesting fighting concept.
  6. Minecraft – Even though this game has already achieved massive success, it still isn’t technically released yet. Right now it is still in the beta process with a lot more additions coming soon. The plan that Mojang has right now is to have a full release sometime this year but this game is already one of my favorite games out there.
  7. Firefall – Here is where the list gets a little fuzzy but this is the best looking shooter MMO I’ve seen in a LONG time and I believe that a lot of you out their will agree.
  8. Marvel Universe Online – There isn’t a lot of details about this right now so why is it on the list? I’m being a little bias on this decision… I LOVE Marvel and any MMO that brings us in to a Marvel world is okay in my book. However after more details are released about this game, if I see that this game is going to fail then it will be removed from the list. Being free to play really helps too.
  9. Transformers Universe – Again, there are not a lot of details on this game just yet it still has a long time until release but there are a lot of people out there that have been waiting for a Transformers MMO (not counting TF Online that is out in Korea right now… Korea gets all the best MMOs) and as long as the developer doesn’t screw this up, it has potential to be really amazing.
  10. Family Guy Online – This is really in the same boat as Marvel Universe Online. I was really skeptical but Family Guy is such a popular show that they definitely have an already established audience and after reading up on the game a little I can see how this game could appeal to a lot of people… plus it’s free to play.

SWTOR I’d expect high with all the SW fanboys, but not number 1. It is not original, with the company itself saying they would not do anything new. And the play is… just average. Going through the motions. Eh, in a year it won’t matter.

SWTOR is just WoW with blasters.
The gameplay revolves around executing the same rotation over and over. Not doing so would be suboptimal.

There is something very wrong with that type of gameplay.

not impress at all with this list. it doesn’t seem the editor did any research for example GW2 is NOT free to play but rather BUY to play. SWTOR did not innovate enough to take the top spot.

Guild wars 2 is free to play in the since that there are no monthly subscriptions. You just buy the game and play as much as you want.
